Electrocutionist, 2006 Dubai World Cup Winner, Dies of Heart Attack

Electrocutionist has sadly died following a suspected heart attack.

Winner of eight of his twelve starts and never out of the first three, the five-year-old won three Group One’s, the most notable being his thrilling victory in the world’s richest race, the Dubai World Cup, at Nad Al Sheba in March.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: “Earlier in the week, we detected an abnormality in Electrocutionist’s heart. He was admitted to the veterinary hospital for tests and further investigations. He appeared to be responding well to treatment, but during the night he suffered what seems to have been a fatal heart attack.

“It is terribly sad. He was a great horse for Godolphin and a real stable favourite. He will be sorely missed by all of us.”

Leave it to my girls to find more things for me to buy. This time they found cool colored stirrup irons. These engraved fillis irons are available in red, blue, pink, purple, yellow, green and fushia. You can order them online from Golden Royal or if you’re in the Indianapolis area you can stop by their store. I think I’m going to give in and let the girls have a pair of purple ones. Then of course, they’ll want a new purple saddle pad to match. Oh and a purple… you get the idea, don’t you? It’s never ending. But, it’s fun! these are $39.95.

I made the cutest ever equestrian girl for my daughter today at Design-her Gals. They offer a lot more than just the girl in the hunt coat with breeches and a crop. They have an entire collection of girls.. from savvy divas to sporty gals. I was going to create a “me” character, but I had more fun creating my girls. The image to the left is for my oldest daughter, I can’t figure out what to use it for so I’m going to wait until she gets home and see about making her a set of vanity cards with her email address, etc. on them to pass out to new friends. Here’s what the website offers:

$16 million dollar 2 year old colt

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum of Godolphin and the guys from Coolmore are at it again. This rivalry is pushing these horses into the millions and setting world record prices. It’s almost unbelievable that Mohammed and John Magnier keep going at it head to head over these horses. The latest was the Florida Fasig-Tipton sale when John Magnier and Derrick Smith pushed the price to $16,000,000. This folks is insane. This colt is also unproven, unnamed and the odds of him ever making $16,000,000 on the track is not going to happen. I hope he’s fertile!!!!!!! (additional photo)

Hoosier Horse Fair

Hoosier Horse Fair is coming up. March 31, 2006 - April 2, 2006. It’s the largest equine event in the state of Indiana. It’s a great place to shop as well as attend clinics and exhibitions.

I noticed this year that I don’t even recognize the names of any of the clinicians. Last year they had some top names. Not sure what’s up, but we’re excited nonetheless about attending this year. You can literally spend 3 days straight just going through the shopping pavilions - yes there’s that many!

Dubai International Racing Carnival

Dubai International Racing Carnival is in full swing and today I discovered that they have a blog.

I think this is an excellent idea. You can learn about the horses, the events and more. The Dubai World Cup is the world’s richest horse race and it’s sponsored by the Maktoum family.

Indiana High School Rodeo

I was checking out the Hoosier Horse Park schedule for 2006 and saw that the Indiana High School Rodeo dates are posted. We went last year and nearly froze to death. Why they have this at an outdoor arena in March I do not know. Anyway, the dates are March 24-25, 2006. You can visit their website for more details. They generally have competitions throught the day and a full show each evening. The high school kids competing are usually from Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.
